The Secret to Offline Marketing is Online Marketing

Are you happy with the direction of your company’s revenues? Many small business owners work night and day to increase those revenues to provide for their family. Many local businesses don’t know the power of Internet; or at least, how to harness that power to make people walk through their door.

Whether you own a traditional bricks and mortar business or a strict online endeavor, you should be using the Internet as one of your main avenues to find leads and build your customer base. How many people turn to the phone book these days? But if you are new to Internet marketing, where do you start?

One place to start is the many online message boards, which are also commonly referred to as online forums. Online message boards or online forums are communities where people (read: buyers) are able to come together and discuss activities or interests they may share.

Many forums allow the members to add a signature line to the bottom of each post. Read up in relevant forums about your topic or niche and begin contributing informative posts in these communities. At the bottom of each of your posts, place a link to your website. As you make intelligent comments, people will trust you and visit your site. Avoid worthless comments that don’t add to the discussion like, “Great stuff,” or “Thanks for the post!” You will not gain a following with comments like this.

Another way that you can see quick results marketing your small business and drive traffic to your sight is through pay per click advertising (PPC), like Google Adwords. What is nice about pay per click advertising programs is that, just as the name sounds, you only have to pay when one of your advertisements gets clicked on. This type of advertising may save you a considerable amout of money compared to paying a flat fee for an advertisement that may never even be seen, let alone clicked on. You pay only for relevant, interested traffic. Don’t get me wrong, if you don’t know what you are doing, it is a great way to lose money very quickly if you don’t know how to target the right customers with the right message with an optimized campaign. Do your homework or seek the help of a professional.

To get some free exposure, it may be worth your time to swap links or swap ads with other website owners. Make sure you are doing this with sites that have a similar demographic that you are trying to attract. If you can find the right site owners who are willing to work with you, this method can be profitable. I will warn you that finding the right people and the right sites can be very time consuming.

There is a lot of talk these days about SEO or Search Engine Optimization. The reason is obvious. The higher the rank, the more free traffic your site will get. There are a thousand factors that affect a site’s rank. Much of it is content. If you can create relevant content around a specific keyword, you can own the traffic in a small search category. To get this right and get your site ranked for the appropriate keywords in an appropriate amount of time, you may want to enlist the help of an SEO professional to create a plan and execute it for you.

Each of these ideas work. They work even better when you combine them and do them consistently over time. They can be tracked and improved upon and rolled out in a big way so you know you will be successful. Start with one technique, learn a few tricks and add another arrow to your quiver, Success in business rarely comes overnight. Put these methods in place to build your business now.
